The single stem trend

The single stem trend is popping up in weddings everywhere, and I for one am on board. This minimalist floral choice can be a little awkward to pitch to wedding clients, simply because it is so incredibly pared back. Couples want (and deserve) the best of the best for their big day, and it’s natural to wonder if a small collection of one flower is “the best.”

I completely understand that sentiment. But to me, this design quietly says: in a world where we can have it all, the best choice might be to commit wholeheartedly to one thing. And really, isn’t that what weddings are all about anyway?

Ok, enough about the high concept. Let’s talk about when this look does and doesn’t work.

If the wedding outfit is glamorous, glittery, ballgown-style, or large in scale in any way, this style may fall flat. Those looks call for florals that can stand up to the statement. But if the outfit is classic, A-line, textural, or more pared back, then this floral choice truly shines.

The single stem concept also opens up a very interesting world for the rest of the celebration. Bridesmaids’ bouquets can become simple bunches of smaller single-flower stems. Table arrangements can be collections of bud vases, each showcasing one variety en masse. Suddenly, the possibilities feel fresh and unexpected while still remaining timeless and simple.

And that’s really the magic of it. Simplicity done well and intentionally makes a beautifully quiet splash.
